This is a low demand, neuro-affirming art & wellbeing group for families with young people aged 8 and over, who are not currently in school (i.e. home educated, flexi-schooled, EBSA). It's designed for neurodivergent families but all welcome. The aim is for parents and young people to take part together. Please buy a ticket for everyone attending.

You will be able to:
- Explore art and nature based activities
- Work together or separately
- Everyone attending can join in
- Choose what you'd like to do each time (self-directed art-making available)
- Use the garden and wooded area - if you'd prefer to stay inside that is fine too

You don't have to be good at art to join in, and the focus will be on the therapeutic benefits of making art such as expression and relaxation.

Why Art Therapy?

Art therapy is a form of therapy where art is used as communication, alongside talking. It can be a great way to express and explore thoughts and feelings that might be difficult to put into words. You don’t have to be good at art as the art can be anything from a squiggle or sensory play to a more detailed painting or sculpture.

I (Jenny Clarke) am a qualified and registered Art Therapist with lots of experience of running groups and making them safe spaces to reflect and explore. Art therapy is confidential. I am there to listen and help you examine what is going on for you. I will make sure everyone has time to explore what is important to them. You can read more about me and art therapy here: www.thymearttherapy.co.uk

Why nature?

There is increasing evidence that being outside and connecting with nature is important for both our wellbeing and that of the environment. The venue, Bedminster Quaker Meeting House, has a lovely garden and woodland area which we can use alongside the indoor room.

Each week the group will incorporate some mindful time in nature and the use of foraged natural materials to supplement the art materials. Art made from natural materials can sometimes express different ideas compared to art made using more traditional materials. I try to use recycled and natural materials as much as possible but I do also have traditional art materials available.
